Electric Blue has recently completed an EVolve fleet analysis of 50 private hire vehicles. Lynx Taxis, licensed by Stockport Council, worked with Electric Blue to demonstrate the benefits of going electric to private hire drivers.
Analysed over a 44 day period, EVolve provided drivers with the evidence that electric vehicles offer a feasible solution, and financial benefits, by using real-world data from their normal shift patterns. Stockport Council can be reassured that air quality targets can be met, with the promotion of electric vehicles as a more sustainable transport method.
Key findings of the telematic devices:
- An estimated £350,000 of running cost savings over five years for the entire fleet.
- Close to 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions could be removed from the air.
Drivers were provided with their personalised data which demonstrated the possible individual savings to be made by converting to an electric vehicle. EVolve has also mapped the best locations for installing charging infrastructure around Stockport, supporting the transition to an electric taxi fleet.
Councillor Tom McGee, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Health said,
“We are delighted to work with Electric Blue, in partnership with Lynx Taxis, and will look to the next step on the way to an electric powered taxi fleet in Stockport. Air pollution is an urgent public health issue resulting in the premature deaths of around 2,000 people in Greater Manchester alone. Working with Electric Blue, we hope to address this serious problem.”
Ed Carman from Electric Blue UK said, “Our EVolve fleet analysis demonstrates the financial and environmental benefit of going electric. We look forward to working with Stockport Council and Lynx Taxis on the next steps of their journey to an electric fleet.”
**A spokesman from [Lynx Taxis](http://www.lynxtaxis.uk) commented,**
“As a company we are keen to do our bit in tackling poor air quality and be on the forefront of new technologies. The interest of our drivers in this initiative has been positive.”
